S.T.A.R.S. Academy is a program, established in September of 2000, that is part of the Paterson Public Schools.

STARS Academy was established as a means to enable high school students with disabilities to gain independence and transition into the workplace.

  • Serves students ages 14-21 with learning, language, Autism, and multiple disabilities as well as mild or moderate cognitive impairments.

  • Serves as an in-district resource for students with disabilities.

  • In addition to providing the academic core, our SLE program is primarily geared towards meeting the transitional needs of exceptional students and to assist them in developing the skills necessary to find and maintain employment after graduation.

               Community Based Instruction (CBI)

  • At Stars Academy, we specialize in providing students employment preparation opportunities through our CBI programs.

  • CBI is a form of instruction that takes place in the natural environment where a functional skill is expected to be performed.

  • Instead of learning in the classroom, our students have the opportunity to acquire and practice meaningful life skills in a variety of places where they would most use them.

  • The goal is to assist our students with developing or acquiring the necessary skills needed to function as independently as possible.
